Rick's interest in haiku and Japanese poetry in general began as a cursory
interest in studying image production and juxtaposition to support his
real passion: Symbolism and Surrealism in poetic revolution. He quickly
found himself admiring much more than the tools of haiku and has since
been passionate in his study of Japanese literature and culture and has
made haiku an essential ingredient in his day to day life. He is retired
from the U.S. Navy and works for a non-profit foundation performing MRI
examinations in a poverty stricken area of Boston, MA. He received his
training through the U.S. Navy and George Washington University.
