Charles Trumbull first encountered haiku in the early 1960s. He didn't do anything serious with that discovery, however, until about five years ago, when he and a group of friends began writing poetry, literally, on a bet. Finding that he could not sustain a poetic thought much beyond one breath-length, he settled on haiku as his medium. Charlie is active in Chi-ku, the Chicago-area haiku group, and the Haiku Society of America. He works in the editorial department of Encyclopaedia Britannica and lives in Evanston, Illinois.
