I encountered my first Haiku about 20 years ago. However it was
not until Dec 1995 that I was fortunate enough to find the Shiki Haiku Mailing
list and this is where my real learning and writing began! Between 1996 and
1998, I edited
Reflections: A Haiku Diary. In 2001, I edited the
Malaysia and
Singapore Haiku
Walls (in memory of those who died on Sept 11th). Over the years, my haiku have
appeared in a number of publications including chaba, frogpond, woodnotes etc.
My haiku have also been published in two anthologies:
A New Resonance: Emerging Voices in English Language Haiku (Volume 1);
published by Red Moon Press - using the name Harsangeet Kaur; and Haiku Sans
Frontieres, an online anthology edited by Andre Duhaime. Between 1999 and 2005,
I was more or less on a Haiku hiatus due to family and work commitments. Now, in
2006, I hope to write Haiku more consistently and look forward to learning and
sharing with friends in the Haiku and Poetry communities.
Other facts :)
My full name is Harsangeet Kaur Bhullar (first name is pronounced 'ha-r-sung- and greet without the r!). I tend to use the name Sangeet with my friends, family
and colleagues as its shorter! I am married to a lovely Welshman called Gareth Loudon. I am Malaysian (born and bred there) of
Punjabi origin (from the broader group Indian), with emotional ties to Malaysia,
Singapore and the UK! My great grand-parents
migrated to Malaysia from the Punjab in India. Gareth is from South Wales,
in Britain.
Gareth and I are both Electrical Engineers, who did our B.Scs and PhDs at
the University of Leicester in Britain. We moved to Wales (UK) in 2002 from Singapore where we spent nearly 10 years. Gareth works teaches part time at a university and runs a product development consultancy whilst I
set up a non-profit organisation promoting positive and safe Internet
use. We
have three lovely children.
